About Gear

The West End's premier bike shop.

Gear Bike Shop has been serving Glasgow's cycling community for almost 25 years. Now a staple of the West End, Joe and the team are always happy to fix your broken bike and get you back on the road.

A warm, friendly shop where you can hire a bike, get yours fixed, or buy a new one.

To confirm with Gear Bikes: The year Gear Bikes opened on Gibson Street, so "almost 25 years" never goes out of date. One reviewer says they've been going "for over 20 years, just after they opened".

Paddy

To confirm with Gear Bikes: Team roles (who owns the shop, who's in the workshop, who runs hire), surnames if wanted, and a photo of each person. Reviews call Joe "the owner". The servicing page also names Ryan, and hire reviews mention Sandy. Should they be on the site?

The West End

Gibson Street, G12

We're right in the heart of Glasgow's West End: two minutes from Glasgow University, next to Kelvingrove Park, and straight across the road from Stravaigin.

That makes us the first stop for students, the local workshop for commuters, and the starting line for visitors heading off to explore Scotland by bike.

Gear Bikes...like something out of the top drawer for bicycle shops.

This is where I visit for legendary servicing and arguably the strongest wheel builds going for Downhill. Thus, anything else on wheel builds, you are certain they will keep you rolling successfully.

Have used Gear Bikes, Joe and his team since the day I got in to riding, 20+ years now. Never had any issue, only effective solutions.

Nothing is ever a problem for them, in fact the guys relish when it comes to challenging/complex an unusual jobs. They take pride in their craft, their customers and service.

Outside of the above, pricing wise they are spot on and I have often found charging less than you'd first think/expect. The remaining credits...should always be attributed to a crate of beer for the team.

Where ever possible, I always recommend Gear Bikes.

I moved north to the Highlands ten+ years ago, I prefer to travel 3+hours to drop in and later collect over using lesser quality services nearer to home.

For anything bicycle - Gear Bikes will ensure your gear is turning well.

“Top GEAR. Joe, Ian and all at GEAR are amazing. They are incredibly skilled bike mechanics, the service is fabulous, very quick and prices great. I have been going there for over 20 years, just after they opened. Highly recommended and no Jeremy Clarkson.”
